Wow it’s pretty!
“I’d remind them that the religion of Cybele (Mother goddess) was the official religion of Rome for 600 years as well a major part of the religious landscape of the known world (Armenia ). When the Roman empire turned from Magna Mater (Mother goddess) to Christianity, (same with Armenia) the empire promptly fell and the long dark ages began…….hardly progress unless progress means something entirely different to you than to me.”
“Cybele and Priestesses” By Cathryn Platine
Christianity has ushered a new age of enlightenment in Armenia, from alphabet, writing books, to science mathematics etc… Not to mention the ability to retain own identity in a region plagued with assimilation and extinction of entire nations. It was a way for us to be Armenian to be distinct. Off course the destruction of pagan temples is inexcusable, but there are also signs of malpractice at the temples. In general all destruction is bad, I believe we should get busy preserving and building rather then destroying. The Roman empire fell into dark ages not because of Christianity it was already in demise, by various factors none of which include Christianity. Not to mention the renaissance and the revival of the classical under the patronage of this religion. I don’t think we can speak of such events with such causal relationship. May I also remind you that to Roman Catholics Maria is a very prominent figure, sometimes even venerated more than Jesus. No matter what went down in history, we should always try to preserve everything our ancestors touched. That’s my personal believe. And it applies to the entire world. When I heard a few days ago that in an ancient Mayan temple was bulldozed for road building in Belize I couldn’t believe how stupid people can get nowadays.
